Note that there are two configurations for the Royal-Pedic Multi-Layer Latex Organic Quilt-Top Mattress:
You can specify 2 or 3 latex layers. Latex is made using the Dunlop
process. You can add an optional deluxe
Double Diamond Box Springs for enhanced mattress support and an Organic Pillowtop
Pad.
Our top recommended configuration: 2" + 6" + 2" Natural Latex; Double
Diamond Box Springs; 4" Organic Pillowtop Pad.
With the 6" core and 2" latex layer above the core, the mattress is about
9" thick. With the 6" core and 2" latex layers both above and below the
core, the mattress is about 11" thick. Both configurations feature single-zone natural latex (Dunlop process for high purity).
The overall height from the top of
the mattress to the floor on an 8" thick box spring and 7.25" frame is about
24.25" if you specify the 6" + 2" and 26.25" if your specify the
2" + 6" + 2" configuration. Organic
pillowtop pads (2", 3" and 4" -- single sided) are also
available for added cushioning and comfort.
The mattress is quilted with thick
layers of untreated, needle-punched French wool. There are no chemicals used in the
processing of this wool, so it would be considered natural. The wool is washed in three soda baths
with increasing temperatures (90 to 140 degrees), followed by a cold rinse in
pure water. The washing process virtually eliminates the typical sheep
odor and risk of moth infestation. After the wool is dried, it is
converted into layers and needle punched to pre-compress into a tighter height,
thus helping to minimize left and settling of materials from body weight.
According to Royal-Pedic, you can actually feel the natural "spring back"
difference of this wool, which will provide optimal comfort.
This mattress uses 10-12-oz. 100% Organic Cotton
fabric. The yard is plied together for more strength before it is woven
into the fabric to avoid the use of sizing. Once the fabric is woven, it
is brushed to provide a soft-to-the-touch feel. Otherwise, it would feel
as coarse as sail cloth.
Royal-Pedic's box springs
construction is of high quality. The supportive coils improve the overall
comfort of the mattress, per Royal-Pedic. Coils are mounted to a poplar wood, wide slat solid wood
frame. There is no use of pressboard, no glues, no resins. The
covering, padding, insulator layer, and even the fabric on the underside of the
box spring are all 100% Organic Cotton.
The box springs uses the 10-12-oz. organic cotton ticking attached to the
surface of the spring system, covered in the matching organic cotton ticking. On the bottom,
there is organic cotton ticking under cloth; finally, there are custom brass
corner guards attached (not cheesy plastic corner guards). Optional:
Double Diamond deluxe Box Springs, with higher coil count. This offers
enhanced mattress support.
We
recommend that you consider adding a 2", 3", or 4" organic
pillowtop pad (single sided) to your Royal-Pedic
bed. The 2" has knife-edge construction; the 3" and 4" have boxed edge

According to Royal-Pedic, these optional
pads provide extra cushioning, luxurious comfort, and additional pressure point
relief to hips
and shoulders for the ultimate in rest and relaxation. The
pads have 2 layers of
French natural wool
quilting on one side, knife edge construction, and an approximate 1.5" layer of
natural Talalay
latex (97% natural latex) for cushioning. The pads are
covered with 100% Organic Cotton.

The pad lays right on top of the
mattress, with no straps. Then the mattress pad and fitted sheet go over
both the organic pillowtop pad and the mattress
itself, holding the pad in place.
In addition, these pillowtop pads are quite substantial in weight, and mattress
and pillowtop pad coverings are cotton on cotton, rather than slippery polyester

The organic pillowtop pad has a non-prorated manufacturer's limited warranty of 5 years.
Features of the Multi-Layer Latex
Organic Quilt-Top Latex Mattress by Royal-Pedic:

Organic Cotton Ticking
ventilates body heat, and is free of all chemicals, including dyes, bleaches,
sizing, fire retardants, chemical fertilization, and pesticides sprayed on
cotton crops. For the 6" + 2" model, there is only one quilted side.
For the 2" + 6" + 2" model, both sides are quilted, meaning that you can flip
the mattress for even wear.
2. Thick
layers of
untreated French natural wool quilted to the
underside of the Organic Cotton ticking for added comfort and a restful night's
sleep. According to Royal-Pedic, no need for dust mite mattress cover
because wool naturally contains lanolin, a natural dust mite repellant.
This wool is classified non-organic.
3. Ergonomically designed,
Single-Zone Natural Latex
mattress 6" core (35 ILD) and one or two 2" layers (25 ILD).
This is 97% pure rubber -- Dunlop process. Note: Some people have
latex allergies, as can be the case with latex gloves. However, according
to Royal-Pedic, the latex material inside the mattress is non-reactive because
it is encased inside of the outer filling materials, mattress covering, mattress
pad, and fitted sheet, whereas, gloves are in direct contact with the skin.
Also per Royal-Pedic, unlike polyurethane foam padding (the main padding
ingredient found in most mattresses), these latex layers do not emit vapors
that trigger allergic or respiratory reactions.
