  Royal-Pedic Materials 

Since 1946, Royal-Pedic has built a solid reputation as the "healthy mattress," always using the finest natural materials available.  Natural ingredients are healthier because they ventilate body heat, offer more comfort, and are more durable than the typical synthetics largely used in the production of mattresses today.  And for those of you who are sensitive to polyurethane smells, you will be happy to know that Royal-Pedic does not use this petrochemical material at all.

The Finest Long Staple Cotton Grown in California and Texas
The cotton padding we use is of the highest grade, normally only used in custom-made, high-end upholstered furniture.  Using the longer cotton fibers blended together to make layers for the mattresses insures there will be a consistent, supportive sleeping surface so you won't get lumps.  In addition, Royal-Pedic offers an organic option.

Natural Latex is Harvested from Rubber Tree Plantations in Indonesia and Malaysia
Royal-Pedic uses Talalay latex (97% natural or a 40% natural/60% synthetic blend).  As described elsewhere on this website, rubber is harvested by tapping into the rubber tree in much the same way as maple syrup is drawn from the maple tree. Next, the rubber is shipped to a modern plant in Belgium, the milky white latex is converted into cores for mattresses and pillows in special zoned molds.  The latex undergoes four rinsing processes to eliminate rubber odors.  Latex is dust-mite repellant, hypoallergenic, and anti-bacterial.

Royal-Pedic latex mattresses feature a 7-Zone Talalay latex core (97% natural or blend), which was designed, based upon sleep studies at the Kirschgartenclinic in Basel, Switzerland by Swiss researcher and sleep specialist, Dr. Dietrich Schneider-Helmert.  According to Royal-Pedic, the 7-Zone design was found to provide optimal sleeping comfort and ergonomic support to all parts of the body.  According to Royal-Pedic, the latex is certified healthy and ecologically friendly by strict European standards (see seal, above left).

 SEVEN FIRMNESS ZONES: According to Royal-Pedic, mattresses with this feature are ergonomically designed for correct support and uncompromising comfort.  The manufacturer claims that such mattresses provide:

1.  Softer upper back and pelvic areas offer pressure point relief and spinal alignment.

2.  Firmer lumbar area supports spine to relieve tension and lower back pain.

 PRESSURE RELAXATION CHANNELS™  Royal-Pedic states that these provide flexibility, pressure point relief and spinal alignment when side sleeping.

 SPECIAL "PIN CORE" CONSTRUCTION  Royal-Pedic claims that this feature enables ventilation of body heat.

 Talalay Latex Core Derived from the Rubber Tree (97% natural or blend).  Hypoallergenic, hygienic, anti-bacterial and dust mite resistant.

 NO MATTRESS SPRINGS  The mattress offers motionless comfort for side-by-side sleepers, per Royal-Pedic.

 RETAINS FIRMNESS LEVELS REGARDLESS OF ROOM TEMPERATURE (unlike temperature sensitive foam mattresses)  Royal-Pedic states that this product offers reliable support and softness and conforms to body contour immediately.

 INDEPENDENT SUPPORT FOR TWO PEOPLE OF VARYING WEIGHTS  The mattress, according to Royal-Pedic, maintains a level sleeping surface and less roll-together feel.

 SYMMETRICALLY DESIGNED  The zones are consistent, per Royal-Pedic, when the mattress is rotated head to foot or top to bottom.

 DESIGNED FOR ALL HEIGHTS  Royal-Pedic asserts that the length of a person's torso, regardless of their height, is very similar; height is generally determined by the length of the legs.

Untreated Lamb's Wool from New Zealand or Wool from South of France
The lamb's wool provides a comforting natural fiber layer quilted underneath the cotton mattress covering.  The lamb's wool contains lanolin -- a natural dust-mite repellant.  The sheep live in wide-open spaces, rather than being cooped up in a small space.  Once the sheep are sheared, the wool is cleaned in a soap-based solution, rather than herding the sheep into a chemically treated trough.
