About NBD-Organic Bedding: NBD-Organic organic bedding is manufactured under our private label in Canada by a leading natural beds/bedding company -- exclusively for Natural Beds Direct. We previously offered nearly identical bedding by the same manufacturer at considerably higher prices under a major brand name (that we are not permitted to mention online). NBD-Organic bedding is priced slightly higher than comparable Natura products due to use of all-natural ingredients, such as 100% Organic Cotton, 97% pure rubber (vs. a 40:60 rubber-synthetic blend), etc. We sell NBD-Organic bedding with our highest recommendation. Scroll down for product list... The following is derived from information provided by the manufacturer. We do not guarantee the accuracy of the manufacturer's product claims. Organic Cotton:
Cotton grown in industrialized countries is generally saturated with pesticides and herbicides and absorb all the chemicals that modern fertilizers deposit in the soil. Machine picked, it is full of impurities, oil, leaves, and dirt. The NBD-Organicmanufacturer informs us that the cotton it uses is cultivated and hand-picked (click left image to enlarge) in the traditional cooperative manner that has been followed for centuries in certain valleys high in the Peruvian Andes. It is grown organically, without the use of synthetic
pesticides, herbicides, or defoliants to fertilize the crop, control plant
growth, or fight pests. No synthetic chemicals are used to strip the leaves in
preparation for the harvest or during the manufacturing process. Hand
picking Europe's oldest and most prestigious certification agency, KRAV of Sweden, has certified the organic cotton used on NBD-Organic products. This stamp of approval is not only a guarantee of organic standards, but also that social rights are observed in the production of the cotton. All cotton used in NBD-Organic batting, filling, and fabrics is this clean, pure, organic product. It is woven to very high standards into the finest, softest fabrics, in Germany and Switzerland. Pure Wool:
Texel sheep (click left image to enlarge) have adapted to a very windy and harsh environment to produce a unique, long wool fiber, with a high crinkle factor and high natural lanolin content. Products made from Texel wool are softer, thicker, warmer, and longer lasting. It is especially well suited to sleep products because of its superior durability, insulation, and moisture regulation. Texel wool is harvested from a sustainable source without detriment or harm to the animal. Each sheep is shorn every spring, producing about 11 lb. of high quality wool. The sheep are raised organically on a land that has never been used for agriculture and, thus, has been protected from chemicals such as fertilizers and pesticides. (Click sheep image below to enlarge.)
All wool used in NBD-Organic products must be processed under strict requirements to be considered safe for use. In this way, we can be sure of the purity of finished products. Note that NBD-Organicwool must be free of any sort of plastic, bailing twine, and mothballs. Fleece must be well skirted; it must not contain hay, burrs, belly hair, manure, etc. Processing is restricted. Usual processes performed on wool are not allowed, such as carbonizing (a process that uses carbonic acid to dissolve chaff), shrink-proofing, chemical scale removal, and moth-proofing. The manufacturer states that it strictly prohibits any process that uses chemicals or produces toxins in the wool. Finished batting for NBD-Organicwool products can only be washed with vegetable-based soaps, instead of chemical pesticides. All fiber lubrication, static control, or wetting agents are vegetable-based and petroleum-free. Finally, the manufacturer requires that the wool be stored in an unscented atmosphere. No Unnatural Fire Retardants, Per the Manufacturer: Note that we cannot verify the following information, which was provided by the manufacturer of NBD-Organic products. The manufacturer informs us that there are NO chemical fire retardant additives in NBD-Organic products. The wool used in many of the products is said by the manufacturer to be an excellent natural fire retardant. However, just to be on the safe side, if you or someone else plans to smoke in bed, these products may not be for you -- and we request that you do not buy them. 97% Natural Latex:
Natural Rubber is a renewable resource. It is the milk or sap tapped from the Hevea Brasiliensis -- the common rubber tree -- grown on Malaysian plantations especially selected for their high quality product. The supplier is located in an area that produces the finest quality rubber for mattress use, an extremely durable, elastic material characterized by its ability to retain its shape and original firmness. Because the product is manufactured where the sap is harvested, the manufacturer is able to sustain the local economy and provide jobs, without depleting the natural resources of the country of origin. To assure consistency in rubber quality, the manufacturer uses only bud-grafted rubber trees -- meaning that rubber from one tree to the next will be chemically identical and thus will mix well. An important element of the NBD-Organic manufacturing process is that the processing of the Hevea milk is done close to the Malaysian plantation. This is done because rubber destabilizes when it is kept in a liquid form for too long. This can be avoided by the addition of chemicals, but since the manufacturer wants its product as pure as possible, the manufacturer represents that it cannot add chemicals. For NBD-Organic products, the milk is harvested in the morning, and by the afternoon it is being molded into sheets, later shipped to Canada, where they are expertly covered at the plant. Click image to enlarge. The manufacturer uses the Dunlop system to produce a 97% pure latex for our NBD-Organic mattresses and latex mattress topper. The process involves only air, natural soap, and vulcanization agents (soda ash and zinc), which are used to ensure that the rubber keeps its form. Note: We make no guarantees about degree of firmness or comfort of bedding products sold. Those subjective measures are determined by individual experience.
